The North Bay Advocacy Council
The North Bay Advocacy Council is a group of self-advocates who work together to protect, promote, and advance the rights of people with intellectual disabilities. The Council empowers individuals to speak up for themselves and others, helps resolve concerns, and builds awareness about rights and responsibilities—both within Community Living North Bay (CLNB) and in the broader community.
The Council meets monthly to share experiences, identify issues, and take action to create meaningful change. Whether it’s reviewing policies, participating in local events, or lending a hand to someone who feels their rights are being restricted—the Council’s mission is clear: to amplify the voices of people with lived experience and make sure everyone is heard, included, and respected.

2024/25 Highlights
In 2024, the Council expanded its impact and welcomed new and returning members with fresh ideas and energy. Some key milestones included:
- Guest Speakers: Engaged in meaningful dialogue with CLNB’s Supportive Employment team and the Rights Committee on the importance of inclusion and self-advocacy.
- Organizational Involvement: Reviewed internal documents, offered feedback, joined workshops, and contributed to communications for both CLNB and Community Living Ontario.
Community Presence
- Delivered a keynote speech at CLNB’s 70th Anniversary event.
- Attended the Speaking Out Conference and visited with Community Living Huntsville to share experiences.
- Launched a new Advocacy Council Pamphlet to help spread the word about what advocacy really means.
Growth & Projects
- Reintroduced the Council’s Recipe Book project and proudly welcomed new members to the table, strengthening the Council’s voice and reach.
