Family Home Program

The Family Home Program is one of several residential options available to people who have an intellectual disability that allows their needs and desires to be addressed in a personal and flexible manner.

Family Home Program

Share your heart and your home

The Family Home Program recruits and thoroughly screens families of all sizes who live in the community. These families (Host Families or Family Home providers) are willing to welcome an adult or child into their home as part of their family, promote and provide a safe and secure place to live, a high quality of life, support and community inclusion.

The selection of a host family is a mutual process taking into consideration the person’s interests and living preferences prior to being considered for approval. A “pre-placement” process occurs in which the person and the host family become familiar with each other and this may take between three and twelve months.

Upon placement, ongoing contact, home visits, case management, and supervision is provided through Community Living North Bay’s Family Home Program. The person’s natural family and supports are encouraged to participate in the placement process and maintain active involvement in a person’s life.

We are looking for Families that are interested in welcoming an adult or child into their home as part of their family. Experience in developmental services is an asset, but not required.

Host Families are required to:

  • Provide a safe and secure place to live
  • Ensure a high quality of life
  • Provide support based on the person’s needs
  • Promote community inclusion
  • Be an active part of the person’s support team
  • Complete screening a process including a Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening

Families who are approved and matched will receive a monthly payment, support, relief, and individualized training.

The day I became a family home provider was the beginning of a life filled with many new adventures; warm, fuzzy moments and life-altering memories. Enriching is the single word I would choose to use to summarize my life change from the day I opened my house and heart for an incredible loving young girl. She truly is “the wind beneath my wings”.
